| The
new airport
The new airport in Gazipaşa is definitely the most important news in our area. We have been waiting since the airport was built and almost finished in 2002. Many "reasons" have been given for not opening the airport. For flight experts these reasons can just be taken as excuses for not starting up this airport, the real reasons seem to be of a political nature. We have heard about wind, mountains and size of the runway. For those who have some knowledge about these factors - and also have been visiting this place a few times - these problems are not present at all. The conditions are perfect, and the airport can be built out to serve 500.000 passengers every year, maybe more.
We visited the airport in October 2009. Extension of the runway towards the mountains is ready. (More photos will be sent on request by e-mail).
The runway will be extended all the way to the ocean in the other end. Approval for this has been given, together with approval for making the road in a tunnel under the landing lane. Necessary land has been purchased. It is now clear that Gazipaşa will become an international airport. We just have to be a little patient while they are completing it.
This is what the newspapers are writing about the case:
Turkish Daily News:

Airport announcement leads to investment boom
Today's Zaman:

TurizmHaber (if you read Turkish):

The magazine for Airport Technology:
Airport Technology
From Turkish newspapers, June 2009:
"This was a historical day for Gazipasa.
The plane circled a while in the air to note the coordinates.
With big applause it was welcomed on the ground.
The pilot reported that it was the very best airport to land."
Good news!

The
new main road
For many years we have been hearing about it. Most people thought it would never happen. However, it will be finished in a few years: the new main road between Antalya and Mersin. From Antalya to Alanya there is not much left to build of it. And the work is very far in Kargıcak and Demirtaş. Doing a serious investigation, through land owners in the area between Alanya and Gazipaşa, it is now pretty clear where the main road will come. In Alanya, you can see the construction work of it. And it is going fast. Many home owners will get a little upset about having a highway right outside their doors, with all the heavy traffic going to Mersin or further east. Unfortunately, some real estate brokers or constructors forgot to tell them. In Cikcilli several complexes were built without any consideration to this road. Not such good news for investors and buyers of a second home in this area.
In Mahmutlar the road has been taken in consideration ever since the plans were made. It has been and still is not allowed to build in the area where the highway will be placed. At the same time as the preparation is going on, the coast road is being fixed little by little. As soon as the new main road is finished, the beach boulevard will be completed - and the beach will berenovated.

Barbaros
In 2007 the council of Mahmutlar made Barbaros into a beautiful city-street, with cobblestone, plants, running water, wide pavements, benches, lampposts and a lot more. The first step went from the clock to the west. In 2008 the street was finished also to the east. Barbaros goes through the entire Mahmutlar, and it is a witness of a well followed city-plan. The upper street, Atatürk, is yet under development - together with the crossing streets. The plan is to make them all ready in 2009. Connected to these streets, small parks are being built as well. Apartment owners in certain complexes, have now started to make small donations, to speed up the work in their surroundings. This means, of course, increasing of the value for an apartment. If you want to know more about how to do this, please send us an e-mail.
